I first came across Tove Styrke in 2015 with the release of her single, Ego. It quickly became one of my favorite songs of the year with its infectious melody and unique production. If you haven’t heard it before, it’s definitely worth your time and can be found HERE. Even if it came out today it would still sound completely fresh and new. After the release of her album Kiddo, also in 2015, Styrke has remained quiet while developing her music further. According to interviews, she spent much of the last few years trying to decide on the sound with which she wanted to return. Well she has now made a decision and come back this week with Say My Name, another incredibly catchy pop song. This time around she has foregone the booming instrumentation and layered harmonies for minimalistic beats and a more confident vocal performance. Say My Name does a great job of walking the line of being accessibly while still being forward thinking (take the warped ukulele that starts the song off as an example). It seems like Tove Styrke is moving in a new direction, and I can’t wait to see what she does next! Listen to Say My Name below!
