I can’t find out very much about Michl, so he’s a great example of letting the music speak for itself! Although he released two other songs that in hindsight are also quite excellent, I first noticed him with Die Trying, a pulsating song putting Michl’s beautiful falsetto and harmonies on full display. He followed up these initial tracks with his self-titled debut EP in August, doubling his already impressive repertoire and unleashing our favorite of his, Broken Roots, combining his signature vocals with sparse production that frequently suggests a dance beat that doesn’t quite fully materialize. He knows exactly how to keep you wanting more. Michl has had a stellar breakout 2016, and although I’m not seeing him on other tip lists like I think he deserves to be, I’m hoping he has much more in store for us in 2017.
