Australia really does pump out some incredible musicians, doesn’t it? Gordi popped up on my radar towards the end of 2015 when I finally heard her wonderful first two tracks, Can We Work It Out and Nothing’s as It Seems. Mixing acoustic folk sounds and melodies with eclectic electronic instrumentation and production, no one else sounds quite like Gordi, due in part to her beautiful usage of layered harmonies. She went on to further develop her sound on her debut Clever Disguise EP earlier this year which included my favorite of hers, So Here We Are. After already finding success in her home country, I’m really hoping 2017 is the year Gordi branches out to find a more international audience. She seems well on her way, opening for Bon Iver and signing with US label Jagjaguwar, home to the likes of Angel Olsen and Bon Iver, during 2016. With more and more people taking notice of Gordi, I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for her!
